Abellaires Artisan Pollen: A Natural Superfood with Multiple Health Benefits
Our artisan pollen at Abellaires Empordanesos is much more than a beekeeping product — it’s a living, complete superfood, harvested by free-roaming bees in the natural landscapes of our region. Each grain of pollen is a tiny capsule of nutrients that supports a balanced and healthy diet.
Pollen is formed when bees collect floral pollen with the hairs on their bodies. They then groom it into small pellets using their hind legs and carry it back to the hive. This carefully collected pollen, free from industrial processing, arrives to you fresh, raw, and full of nutritional value.
Nutritional richness and daily intake contribution
Just one tablespoon of pollen (about 15 grams) can provide:
- Up to 30% of the recommended daily intake of protein, including all essential amino acids, which are key to cell regeneration, muscle function, and metabolism.
- Between 20% and 50% of the daily need for B vitamins, such as thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6), and folic acid (B9), essential for the nervous system, energy production, and neurotransmitter synthesis.
- Up to 25% of the daily requirement of vitamins C and E, powerful antioxidants that help fight oxidative stress and support immune health.
- A rich supply of key minerals like iron (important for preventing anemia), zinc (for immune function), calcium (for bones and teeth), and magnesium (for muscles and nerves).
- Essential fatty acids and digestive enzymes that support nutrient absorption and healthy digestion.
Thanks to this nutritional profile, pollen is especially recommended during times of chronic fatigue, stress, intense mental or physical demand, or to compensate for an unbalanced diet. It’s also widely used in sports recovery, to enhance vitality, or to boost the immune system naturally.
Fresh, local pollen harvested with care
At Abellaires Empordanesos, we harvest our pollen in a responsible and sustainable way, without harming the health of the hives. It is dried at low temperatures to preserve its enzymes and vitamins and is left completely untreated. Thanks to this artisan process, we deliver a raw, unpasteurized, non-irradiated pollen with its natural color, vibrant texture, and floral taste.
Being local, our pollen avoids long transportation chains and ensures a product with traceable origin and minimal environmental impact.
How and when to consume pollen
Pollen can be consumed all year round, but it’s especially beneficial in spring and autumn, when your body needs extra support. It may also help to relieve mild seasonal allergy symptoms, thanks to its progressive desensitizing effect (always under professional supervision).
Recommended dosage:
- Adults: start with one teaspoon (5 g) per day and gradually increase to one tablespoon (15 g).
- Children from age 6: ½ teaspoon (2–3 g) per day.
You can take it on its own, or mix it into yogurt, fruit, smoothies, cereals, honey, or plant-based juices. It’s best taken on an empty stomach or between meals for better absorption. Avoid mixing with hot liquids, as high temperatures may destroy its enzymes and vitamins.
