Natural Bee Pollen: a natural superfood with multiple health benefits
The artisan pollen that we produce at Abellaires Empordanesos is much more than an apicultural product: it is a living, complete superfood, harvested by free bees in natural surroundings near us. Each grain of pollen is a tiny nutrient capsule that significantly helps maintain a healthy and balanced diet.

Natural process and preservation
Pollen forms when bees collect pollen from flowers on the hairs of their bodies. With instinctive precision, they groom it with their hind legs to form little pellets they carry back to the hive. This pollen, carefully harvested and without industrial processes, retains all its natural properties and arrives fresh, raw and with maximum nutritional value.
Nutritional richness and daily contribution
One tablespoon of pollen (around 15 grams) can provide:
- Up to 30% of the recommended daily protein intake, with all essential amino acids, key for cellular regeneration, muscle health and metabolic balance.
- Between 20% and 50% of daily B‑vitamin needs, such as thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pyridoxine (B6), and folic acid (B9), essential for the nervous system, energy production and neurotransmitter synthesis.
- Up to 25% of vitamin C and E needs, with strong antioxidant power to fight oxidative stress and support the immune system.
- A good dose of essential minerals like iron (important to prevent anaemia), zinc (crucial for immune function), calcium (for bones and teeth), and magnesium (important for nervous and muscular systems).
- Essential fatty acids and digestive enzymes that improve food assimilation and promote good digestion.
Benefits and recommended uses
Thanks to this combination, pollen is especially helpful for people experiencing chronic fatigue, stress, periods of high mental or physical demand, or with unbalanced diets. It’s also widely used in sports recovery plans, to enhance vitality or strengthen natural defences.
Fresh, local pollen harvested with care
At Abellaires Empordanesos we gather pollen in a responsible and sustainable manner, without endangering the hive’s health. The pollen is dried at low temperature to preserve enzymes and vitamins, and offered without chemical treatments. This artisan process allows us to deliver raw pollen, unpasteurised and un‐irradiated, with its natural colour, lively texture and floral taste.
How to consume pollen and when
Pollen can be consumed year‐round, but is especially beneficial in spring and autumn, periods where the body needs reinforcement. It may also help alleviate mild symptoms of seasonal allergies, thanks to its progressive desensitizing effect (always under professional supervision).
Recommended dose:
- Adults: start with one small teaspoon (5 g) and gradually increase up to one tablespoon (15 g) per day.
- Children from 6 years old: ½ teaspoon (2‑3 g) per day.
You can consume it alone, or mixed with yoghurt, fruit, smoothies, cereals, honey or vegetable juices. It is best consumed on an empty stomach or between meals to favour absorption. Do not expose it to high heat or mix with hot infusions, as high temperatures can destroy part of the enzymes and vitamins.
