Eucalyptus Honey · Natural Honey with a Balsamic Flavour

Eucalyptus honey is a monofloral honey known for its intense taste and balsamic notes. Made from the nectar of Eucalyptus flowers, it stands out both for its sensory profile and its traditional use in relieving sore throats and respiratory discomfort.

At Abellaires Empordanesos, we produce this honey in an artisanal way, respecting the bees’ natural cycle and the flowering season. However, it is not considered raw honey, as it may have been gently heated to ease filtration and packaging, and to prevent excessive crystallisation.

Sensory and Botanical Characteristics

This honey typically has a dark amber colour, which may vary slightly depending on the climate, region and time of harvest. Its aroma is strong, with a distinctive eucalyptus scent and slightly smoky undertones. The flavour is persistent, menthol-like and balsamic, making it highly recognisable.

It tends to crystallise slowly and finely, resulting in a pleasant texture. Crystallisation is a natural process and does not affect its quality.

Traditional Uses and Culinary Applications

According to folk tradition, eucalyptus honey has been used as a natural throat soother and is commonly added to herbal teas during colder months. Its balsamic taste helps to clear the airways and brings a feeling of comfort.

In the kitchen, it pairs well with marinades, teas, yoghurts, desserts and recipes that benefit from a strong, aromatic sweetener. It complements aged cheeses, white meats and dishes with aromatic herbs.

Artisanal Production

Unlike mass-produced pasteurised honeys, our natural eucalyptus honey is carefully harvested and filtered, and gently warmed only when needed to ensure smooth texture and easy packaging. It is free from additives and fully traceable.

Packaging and Storage

Our honey comes in recyclable glass jars, available in several sizes, perfect for everyday use or as a thoughtful gift. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light. If it crystallises, place the jar in warm water (below 40 °C) to return it to a liquid state.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is it raw honey?

No. Since it may have been lightly heated during processing, it is not classified as raw. Nonetheless, it remains natural and free from artificial additives.

Is it safe for children?

Not recommended for children under 12 months. Beyond that age, it can be consumed as part of a balanced diet.

What if the honey crystallises?

Crystallisation is a natural sign of quality. To liquefy it, gently warm the jar in a water bath without exceeding 40 °C.
